Discover Powerful New Promotional Tool

Weblogs or Blogs Provide Easy Way to Build
Your Website Traffic, Rankings, Profits

Do YOU blog?....

Blogs or webLogs are simply an online journal, organized in chronological order. Blogs have been around for years; mostly used for personal websites. Most normally focus on a single topic or theme and allow visitors to add comments, thus creating an interactive dialog between owner and visitors.

There are search engines and directories specifically geared toward blogs and bloggers. Until now, blogs have been its own little niche on the Internet. But more and more are using blogs. Google, in its latest toolbar, now offers a "Blog This" button and runs Blogger.com.

A blog or webLog really is a super content management tool. It can act as a forum to generate discussion and as an e-zine in announcing new items etc. It does not appear that webLogs will totally replace these "traditional" tools, but it does give you a new option.

Used by Web's Most Successful Internet Marketers:

The application of webLogs for marketing and promotions is the new twist. Many of the Internet's top marketers are using blogs. Some are:

Allen Says, from the Warrior Group has Secret Wisdom. He began his weblog to help answer questions on Internet marketing and in part, to circumvent all the spam email out there.

Check out his new weblog:

Another is, my good friend and fellow linkmaster, Jack Humphreys of Power Linking created
The Marketing Rank
. When I asked Jack why, he replied:

"Why Blog? I do it because it's instant content, instant publishing, and blogs become addictive for visitors once they get in the habit of checking you out. With great content, it can be one of the highest traffic pages on your entire site. At certain times my blog is pulling in double the traffic my main index page is! Great branding tool and nice extra income from product recommendations.

Oh yeah - and you can get a blog listed in search engines that will ONLY take blogs. Don't have one yet? Then you are missing one heck of a traffic and profit source!"

Finally there is Jimmy D. Brown and Ryan Deiss who dropped their newsletter to set up a weblog at In the Loop Diary. Soon after they starting, they answered the question "why a weblog?" They had 7 reasons:

  • Constant updates-instead of having to format and send out emails, all you do is type in your entry and then "submit it" and you're done.
  • Easily digestible BURSTS of content-most entries are short and to the point
  • Consistent traffic to your SITE-to read the blog you must return to the website.
  • No rules-Blogs are all about freedom. You can post what you like.
  • No spam filters
  • Great for JV partnerships- Co-publishing is simple since most webLog admin sections allow multiple users.
  • Unique-everyone has an ezine, but how many have a webLog?

In addition to Internet marketers some major websites have their own webLogs, are a webLog, or provide content that can be used in a webLog. The potential uses and advantages of webLogs are just beginning to be seen. A few sites using webLogs are: Search Engine Guide, searchEngineBlog, and Search Engine Watch.

Since changes can happen quickly in the search engines industry, that it only sense to use a media that provides for easy updates and distribution of information.

If these successful and highly ranked websites are using webLog, shouldn't you at least try?

Give Your Website A Boost...Just By Writing

Should YOU have a webLog?....

Before starting on one, you need to sit down and decide why you would want one and what would its purpose be. Linking101 moved into webLogs for a number of reasons, some of which were mentioned by others above. For some good articles on webLogs, see the Article Section.

It is easy to get a webLog going. Find a script or service to use, install/set it up, and then begin posting away. It will be slow at first, but if you work at it, they will come.

There are not any special skills needed to run a webLog (unless you want to fiddle with the script itself). What is needed is information on a particular topic (hopefully related to your website) and the desire to share that with others.

For your webLog to succeed, you will simply need to focus on adding postings and reviewing/commenting on visitor comments.

Now, despite the potential in webLogs, there can be some drawbacks but if you clearly define what your webLog is and what you want to do with it, it should provide your website with great traffic and content. All you have to do is write!

Probably the biggest drawback is time. Everyone wants more of it. It is hard to find the time to do some stuff, so be realistic when setting up a webLog. If time is short, decide to post say every few days etc.

Some of the other drawbacks deal with the scripts used to create blogs. Many scripts create dynamic pages which some search engines can't read. Also most come with a set template, which does not easily allow for editing. Also most webLogs allow for visitors' comments. Any time you allow for open input, you could be asking for trouble.

Again these issues can be addressed with how and where you put and promote your webLog. Also if you know when someone posts to your webLog or you review the entries periodically, you should be fine.
