Linking101.com's Link Review:

November 2002 Review:

Link Survey V1.1

Linking101.com was created to give you the ins and outs of link popularity and what you need to do to improve your ranking. Though it might not always be stated, one has to check one's link popularity to see the fruit of this labor.

So how does one check their link popularity? There are many options: online and off-line (programs run off of your hard drive). This particular review is on Link Survey, a product you install on your hard drive which can "check link popularity of multiple relative websites, make comprehensive analysis and generate detailed report." Link Survey is by AntsSoft and I want to thank them for providing a fully functional copy of the program for this review.

Link Survey is a very hardy and compact program, which downloads quickly and can be easily installed on most computers. There are number of features, that I really liked about the program:

  • Each time you go online, the program automatically updates itself
  • You can search up to 13 search engines simultaneously
  • Reports can be created as .xls, txt, html, or csv formats
  • You can check webpages for links in the built in browser

Link Survey provides three types of reports:

  1. A Single Site Report-checks the selected search engines for any pages that link to the specified domain.
  2. A Single Site Assessment Report-checks the selected search engines for the webpages from the specified domain that have been spidered (indexed).
  3. A Multiple Sites Report- checks how your web site compares in link popularity with your competition (or all domains specified).

I think all three reports are useful and can help a webmaster figure out where is website is headed. I particularly like Report #2-where you can see which pages in your website have been indexed. Remember, all pages in your website, if designed properly, can act as "doorways" into your website.

Report #3 is also quite handy, as it is any easy way for your to see how your competition is doing or it can be a useful way to check the link popularity of potential link partners. The more established and better linked a website is, the better it is for you, to link to it.

Link Survey is a very useful program, which won't kill your budget. At $40 USD, it is affordable for all webmasters and comes with lifetime updates. As was stated earlier it can check up to 13 search engines (Google, Hotbot, All the Web, Lycos, AltaVista, MSN, Yahoo, All the Sites, AOL, Excite, Sympatico, Goeureka and iWon), at the same time so you do not have to go searching at a ton of different web sites to get an idea how your link building is paying off.

So, if you are looking for an easy, affordable way to check your link building and link popularity, and you want the convenience of running it off of your our own computer, get Link Survey.
