Linking101.com's Link Review:May 2004 Review: To build links, you need to find them. My LinkGuide and many of the reviews of programs, sites and software have shown you many options. Well this month, I add another but one with a slight twist. Linkateer.com is a relatively new site, started late last year. It is a private members directory of about 100 categories and boasts a very low monthly fee of about $9.00. What makes Linkateer different? In the words of Frank D., president "It is unique in that it leaves no footprints behind as it uses server side code to add partnered links to its member domains." That raised my eye brow. So I asked Frank to explain more. "Linkateer returns basic html page to a members domain/linkpage using server side code (asp, php, or cfm). We also offer a manual copy and paste method for those whose webhost doesn't support these scripting languages (99% do). Each member just adds their selected code to their linkpage (easy copy and paste) and the link list with their descriptions are added seamlessly to the members site on their domain. We limit each linkpage to 50 links and require additional text on the page such as an intro paragraph." At Linkateer to add a link from the member directory, you simply click on "add link request". Each member has the ability to accept or reject link requests from others. Control-that is important. The system keeps track for you all requests you have made. Also the Linkateer staff monitors all sites to make sure folks are following policy and protocol. What do you need? To truly automate the process, you need your web host to support Active Server Pages (ASP), PHP, or Cold Fusion. If not, then you can manually add the links. As I said Linkateer is relatively young but it is growing. I just checked with Frank just before publishing this review, and they are adding 10-15 new members a day and now boost over 1300 members! Another new feature at Linkateer is "complete management of link partners." Linkateer now lists all of a member's link partners with their listing (url, title, and description), email address, quick email contact link, verification link, link page (could be one of many entered), and the link code for each particular partner. If you want to contact a partner, verify a link and instantly check if your link is on your partner's link page, you can with a click of a button. A while back a "newbie" to the Internet asked me what I recommend he does to build links. After speaking with Frank and reviewing Linkateer.com, I would tell the "newbie" to head over to Linkateer and give it a try. Signing up and your first 20 links are free! Linkateer looks like its going to be a valuable link building resource. -Larry Sullivan Copyright 2001-2006 © by LRSxpress/Linking101, All rights reserved.
