Why I Have a WebLog or Blog and You Should Too.
I first heard about weblogs about a year ago and did not think it was anything that I should worry about.
Well, times do change.
Over the last few months, the topic of weblogs has grown tremendously as Internet marketers began to realize the potential they have for getting their message out.
With spam hitting everyone these days, marketers are turning to weblogs or blogs as a way to help get their message out without it being lost in the clutter.
Now weblogs are not the answer to all problems but as Jason Cain of Goldblogging.com said: "Forums, ezines, and email will not be replaced by blogs. It's just another arrow in the marketers quiver."
The more I investigated weblogs and read what marketers were doing, I realized that I too should start one. And I did. what made me change my mind?
1. I wanted to find new ways to get information to and interact with my visitors, customers, and subscribers. As I surf the web, I find tons of great linking related material to share with my subscribers et. al. I bookmark it for future discussion and then eventually get to it. Well a weblog would be a perfect format to present and organize this material quickly and easily, along with my thoughts and ideas plus also allow visitor feedback.
2. I am always looking to strengthen and enhance my search engine rankings. Weblogs by their nature are great search engine food. For a weblog to help you there, it needs to be topic specific or related to your subject, text based, and archeived. Again since I focus on a few areas of Internet promotions and I do not plan to use my weblog to discuss unrelated material, it was another plus for blogging.
3. Linking or "blinking" (blog + linking) was the final piece. I am always looking to build links. A Weblog is also a great linking tool. Creating topic specific information (text) and revelent outbound links-a super combination. Ok, what about inbound links? Well once the weblog is established, then hopefully others will want to link to it. Also many weblog scripts have a "syndication" feature where other websites can automatically put your weblog content on their website. Perfect!
Yes times are changing and weblogs are a new tool at the webmaster's disposal. If you haven't yet, look into weblogs and see if it can fit into your website. You will be glad you did. In addition to his popular link management script, he has recently created his own WebLog script.
